Things We Learned From The Best Games Of The First Week Of NFL Football
We'll start with the game that Kicked off the NFL season, the Philadelphia Eagles versus the Dallas Cowboys
Philadelphia eagles: Positives
Jalen Hurts was able to demonstrate his abilities as a dual threat QB, moving the ball effeciently thorughout the game and making cruical plays when it mattered. The Oline provided pretty solid protection all night allowing hurts to execute the game plan all night long.
Devonta Smith was as instrumental to the offense as typical, these able to separate and affect the game for the duration.
Defensively Campbell and Jordan Davis applied constant pressure on Dak Prescott interrupting their offensive rhythm leading to the secondary taking advantage of certain opportunities, forcing a timely turnover.
2 rushing Td's for hurts
Negatives :
Despite a Strong performance throughout, the eagles continue to try and figure out how to fully maximize red zone opportunities, coming up short numerous times throughout this game despite the tush push play call, Communication errors and blitz pickup failure lead to more pressure on Hurts special teams missed a field goal early which kept the game unnecessarily close, defensively there were several lapses in coverage that allowed Dallas key third down conversion . As die hard eagles fans would tell you Late game decision making was shaky for the birds, though the team managed to stick it out and get the win. Aj Brown had 1 catch for 8 yards in week 1. Jalen Hurts passed for 0 Td's
Eagles are too run dependent right now.
Dallas Cowboys
Positives:
Dak Prescott engineered a late push, showing composure and resilience under pressure. CeeDee Lamb delivered in key moments, while Tony Pollard chipped in on the ground and through the air to keep balance in the attack.
Up front, the line gave Prescott enough clean pockets at times to make plays.
Defensively, there were flashes of dominance, especially after halftime.
Negatives:
The offense came out flat, practically handing the Eagles an early edge. The run game never truly broke through against Philly’s front seven. Costly defensive lapses led to long, draining drives, and special teams let scoring chances slip away. Situational mistakes down the stretch echoed past seasons, and early turnovers weren’t turned into points missed plenty of chances to swing control of the game.
What We Learned About The Cowboys:
Dallas can hang with top teams, but inconsistency keeps them in tight finishes.
Dak still has the clutch factor, though the offense needs more balance. Lamb is firmly established as a game changer.
The defense can flip possessions with turnovers, but it bends when stretched over long drives. Special teams remain a weak spot when the game’s on the line.
Dallas does NOT NEED Micah Parsons.
What We Learned About the Eagles
Hurts’ dual threat presence is still a difference maker in late game moments.
Depth at the skill spots gives them answers even when the line breaks down.
The defense sets the tone early but needs to finish with the same edge to avoid late drama.
Red zone execution continues to raise questions about postseason consistency.
Special teams remain shaky, leaving the door open for opponents to swing momentum.
